The situation with the depth of inland water ways of Russia will be improved owing to special measures, Victor Vovk, deputy head of the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency, told IAA PortNews regional journalist.
As of today, Azov-Don Sea Canal is 380 cm deep but it is decreasing because of the wind. If we take this year as a whole, the situation is quite favorable for the Azov-Don Basin as compared with the previous years. In the Gorodets district the situation is different: restrictions have been introduced there like in other basins, Victor Vovk says.
The official added that the situation will be gradually improved owing to special measures. “This year saw initial designing of a low-head water development in the Nizhni Novgorod district. We think it necessary to build Bagayevsky water engineering system, it is a matter of time,” Victor Vovk says. According to him, it will be impossible to preserve the flow of vessels without ensuring the required depth.
