Paris MOU does not stipulate for physical inspection of bunker to verify its compliance with sulphur content limits from Jan 1’15

Consulting Council of Paris MOU (Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control) has approved guidelines for port control inspectors on inspection of bunker fuel compliance with MARPOL requirements concerning sulphur content for vessels sailing in SOx Emission Control Areas, IAA PortNews was informed by Vitaly Klyuev, Deputy Director of the Department of State Policy for Maritime and River Transport of RF Transportation Ministry, Vice-Chairman of Paris MOU.

The guidelines stipulate only for inspection of documents related to bunkering to verify bunker compliance with MARPOL requirements.

Paris MOU meeting was held on September 17, 2014 in Sochi (Russia).

From January 1, 2015, sulphur content in ship fuel may not exceed 0.1% (currently 1%) in Sulphur Emission Control Areas.
