Broekman Distriport participates in in European “Allweatherterminal” network
Broekman Distriport participates in “Allweatherterminals.com”. This European network of 8 covered terminals is often used as starting and/or end point of shortsea services. The terminals are located in Rotterdam, Amsterdam (NL), Antwerp (B), Basel (CH), Duisburg (D), Goole (GB), Kokkola (SF) and Marín (E), the company said in its press release.
The aim of allweatherterminals.com is to promote the concept of covered terminals as a safe, weatherproof and efficient environment for the handling of goods. For the stevedores, as well as the owner or operator of a ship, it is extremely annoying when the ship’s hatches have to be closed because of bad weather conditions, such as wind, rain, snow etc. Some types of steel, e.g. for the automotive industry, are very sensitive to moisture. Additionally, every delay brings about extra costs. The distribution by rail, inland navigation or truck is carried out “indoors” too.
All terminals are equipped with a powerful crane that handles up to 50 tonnes and positions the cargo perfectly on the ship or the quay. Ships up to 9,500 DWT can be accommodated. There is also sufficient room to place a lighter alongside the ship for direct transhipment. Various goods can be handled in the covered terminals: iron and steel, paper and pulp, chemicals, sawed timber, project materials, machines and other conventional goods.
