Throughput of Russian seaports up 6.2% to 465.5 mln t in Jan-Sep’14

In January-September 2014, Russian seaports handled 465.5 mln t of cargo (+6.2%, year-on-year), says press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo totaled 214.3 mln t (+13.2%) including 87.4 mln t of coal (+14.6%), 35.1 mln t of containerized cargo (+6.3%), 21.9 mln t of grain (up 1.9 times), 17.5 mln t of ferrous metal (+4.6%), 10.9 mln t of mineral fertilizers (+16.8%), 5.8 mln t of cargoes carried by ferries  (+18.4%), 3.6 mln t of timber (+8.5%) and 3.6 mln t of scrap metal (+38.0%). Transshipment of ore fell to 4.6 mln t (-17.6%), non-ferrous metals - 2.4 mln t (-17.7%). 

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo hit 251.1 mln t (+0.9%) including 142.7 mln t of crude (-7.6%), 96.5 mln t of oil products (+14.7%) and 9.1 mln t of liquefied gas (+11.5%).

Transshipment of export cargo totaled 370.0 mln t (+7.9%, year-on-year), import cargo - 32.8 mln t (-5.1%), transit cargo - 36.5 mln t (+5.3%), coastal trade cargo – 26.2 mln t (-0.1%).

Operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 26.6 mln t (-24.5%, year-on-year) including 19.3 mln t of dry cargo (+3.3%) and 7.3 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (down 2.3 times). The port of Murmansk handled 16.8 mln t (-27.8%) including 12.4 mln t handled by Murmansk Commercial Seaport (-4.6%). The port of Arkhangelsk handled 2.9 mln t (-16.4%), Varandey - 4.4 mln t (+9.0%). 

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 168.9 mln t (+5.1%) including 66.6 mln t of dry cargo (+9.4%) and 102.3 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+2.5%). The port of Ust-Luga handled 56.1 mln t (+22.1%), Big Port St. Petersburg - 46.1 mln t (+7.3%), Vysotsk - 13.5 mln t (+9.7%), Vyborg - 1.2 mln t (+20.3%), Kaliningrad - 10.3 mln t (-0.2%), Primorsk - 41.6 mln t (-13.5%).  

Throughput of Azov - Black Sea ports climbed to 142.2 mln t (+10.8%, year-on-year) including 53.0 mln t of dry cargo (+17.6%) and 89.2 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+7.0%). The port of Novorossiysk handled 91.8 mln t (+8.8%), Tuapse - 16.4 mln t (+28.9%), Taman - 7.6 mln t (+23.6%), Kavkaz - 7.2 mln t (+28.6%), Azov - 4.7 mln t (+23.0%), Yeisk - 2.9 mln t (+9.6%), Temryuk - 1.5 mln t (+4.4%), Taganrog - 2.0 mln t (+0.1%), Rostov-on-Don - 7.8 mln t (-1.9%). 

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 5.9 mln t of cargo (-0.7%) including 2.5 mln t of dry cargo (+8.1%) and 3.4 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-6.2%). Throughput of port Makhachkala declined by 2.5%, Olya – by 7.5%, while throughput of port Astrakhan increased by 4.1%.

The ports of Far East Basin handled 121.9 mln t of cargo (+12.8%) including 73.0 mln t of dry cargo (+16.7%) and 48.9 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+7.4%). Port Vostochny handled 43.2 mln t (+18.9%), Vanino - 19.2 mln t (+6.7%), Nakhodka - 15.8 mln t (+15.5%), Prigorodnoye - 12.0 mln t (+0.9%), Vladivostok - 11.7 mln t (+8.7%), De-Castri – 5.9 mln t (+14.9%), Posiet - 5.2 mln t (+25.5%). 

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP)  set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
