On October 2-3, nuclear icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy escorted warships and support ships of Russia’s Northern Fleet returning from the Kotelny island of the New Siberian Islands, press center of Atomflot says.
It took the icebreaker 34 hours to escort the ships from the ice edge of the Laptev Sea to the ice-free water of the Kara Sea.
In September, 2014, icebreakers Vaigach and 50 Let Pobedy escorted Russian warships to the New Siberian Islands.
First escort of warships by Rosatom icebreakers was arranged in 2013 when the Yamal, Taimyr, Vaigach and 50 Let Pobedy assisted the unit of 10 warships and support ships through the areas with difficult ice conditions.
