Throughput of port Liepaja (Latvia) up 7.1% to 3.69 mln t in Jan-Sep’14

In January-September 2014, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 3.69 mln t of cargo (+7.1%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority. Transshipment of grain climbed 1.5 times to 1.73 mln t, construction materials – by 18.5% to 404,900 t, while timber transshipment fell by 16.5% to 345,200 t. 

The port’s container throughput dropped by 20% to 2,821 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo cargo increased by 14% to 27,552 units.  Passenger turnover declined by 1% to 32,726 passengers.  The number of calls climbed by 5% to 1,025 calls.

The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2013, the port of Liepaja handled 4.84 mln tonnes of cargo.
