Winter navigation period starts at port Sabetta
As the water area and the approaches to Sabetta see ice formation, winter navigation of 2014-2015 is announced at the port from October 18, 2014. According to the press center of FSUE Rosmorport, the Decree was signed by the acting Harbour Master of the port.
With the start of the winter navigation period, port Sabetta accepts vessels with characteristics and ice categories complying with the criteria for admittance of vessels to the Northern Sea Route.
Non-ice-class vessels and vessels of Ice1-Ice3 classes are not permitted to the Northern Sea Route, therefore they cannot call at port Sabetta from November 16 till June 2015.
All dredging operations at seaport Sabetta scheduled for implementation during the summer navigation period of 2014 were implemented from August 2 till October 17. All dredging and auxiliary vessels have left the port.
The scope of dredging operations at seaport Sabetta and the marine canal which commenced in 2012 exceeded 33.3 cbm of material including 21.5 mln cbm of material excavated during summer navigation period of 2014. As of today, half of dredging operations scheduled for 2012-2016 have been fulfilled.
Construction and assembling works have not been terminated with the end of the summer navigation.
Port Sabetta is projected to be a hub for shipment of liquefied natural gas eastwards and westwards by large capacity gas carriers through the Northern Sea Route. The construction is being carried out in the framework of the Yamal LNG project which envisages the construction of an LNG plant with annual capacity of 16.5 million tonnes per annum based on the feedstock resources of the South-Tambeyskoye field (Yamal Peninsula).
