Port of Helsinki's ten-month cargo traffic rises 5% to 8.5 million tonnes
Cargo throughput at the port of Helsinki in January-August 2013 increased by 5% compared to the same period 2013, to 8.5 million tonnes, the Port Authority press release said.
The ten-month volume includes 4,4 million tonnes of outbound cargo and 4,1 million tonnes of inbound cargo.
In October, there was a 7% gain in the segment of export goods, to 480,000 tonnes, while imports saw a decline of 2%, to 400,000 tonnes.
In January-October, passenger traffic at the Port of Helsinky rose 2% to 9,3 million people.
Port of Helsinki is a premier port of Finland and the largest passenger port, which handles 77 percent of all passenger traffic of the country. Helsinki ranks the third Baltic Sea passenger port. In H1, 2014, cargo throughput at the port increased by 4% to 5,1 million tonnes.
