Marine Façade (Saint-Petersburg) expects up to 488,000 cruise tourists to come in 2015
Saint-Petersburg expects more tourists to come by cruise ships in 2015. The number of such tourists is to total 488,000 persons. According to TASS, this forecast was made by Ivan Rovny, Commercial Director of JSC Passenger Port of St. Petersburg "Marine Façade".
“From the beginning of the year, the port had 236 calls of cruise ships with 483,000 passengers. In 2015, the plan is to welcome 230 vessels. However, large cruise operators tend to raise passenger capacity and the number of passengers will be much higher,” he explained. 11 cruise ships will make their first calls at the city on the Neva.
Ivan Rovny added that recent political events do not have an impact on the flow of tourists to Saint-Petersburg. The majority of tourists come from the US, Canada and Germany. As for the trends of cruise market, Ivan Rovny notes the decrease of Spanish and British speaking tourists while the number of Italian and Finnish tourists is growing. “We expect more tourists from the Asian region. Domestic tourism is also promising,” he added.
