The functions of a sole operator of Kerch ferry service will be handed over to SUE RC Crimean Sea Ports this year. According to the press center of the Transport Ministry of the Russian Federation, this was announced by Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov at the meeting held at port Kavkaz.
Maxim Sokolov noted that following Crimea’s joining of the Russian Federation the Kerch ferry service undertook the major load of transport links with the peninsula.
With the measures undertaken by RF Transport Ministry the capacity of the service increased from 3,600 passengers and 900 cars in 2013 to 23,000 passengers and 4,500 cars in 2014.
“Over the past year the ferries made 10,000 turnaround voyages across the Kerch Strait and carried 2,900,000 passengers, 586,000 passenger cars, 26,000 buses, 5,000 motor vehicles, 84,000 trucks,” the Minister said.
