Throughput of UCL Port stevedoring division up 17% to 8.58 mln t in QI'15

In January-May 2015, stevedoring companies of UCL Port (part of UCL Holding) handled 8.58 mln t of cargo (+17%, year-on-year), UCL Holding says.

Export cargoes operations rose by 22% (1.4 mln t). Transshipment of oil cargo totaled 2.55 mln t (+40%, year-on-year), dry cargo – 6.02 mln t (+9%, year-on-year).

The structure of operations by type of cargo was as follows: 89% - export cargo (7.67 mln t), 10% - import cargo (0.82 mln t), 1% - coastal traffic.

Transshipment of general cargo climbed by 18% to 2.28 mln t including 1.26 mln t of ferrous metal (+26%) and 0.4 mln t of non-ferrous metal (+22%).

Transshipment of loose and bulk dry cargo increased by 8% to 2.81 mln t including 0.53 mln t of grain (+21%).

Coal shipments gained 13% to 1.86 mln t, transshipment of mineral fertilizers fell by 27% to 186,000 t.

Container throughput of UCL Port showed a negative trend, down 23% to 78,600 TEUs. The share of loaded containers surged over 35%, therefore the division’s container throughput in tonnes declined by only 5% to 927,700 t.

This factor, as well as the terminal’s cooperation with the leading lines (CMA CGM, COSCO and Yang Ming) let the stevedores slow down the fall as compared with the general dynamics in the container market of the North West region (-27.6%).

Universal Cargo Logistics Holding (UCL Holding) is an international transportation holding company that is comprised of: stevedoring companies of Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg and Universal Handling Complex in the North-West Russia; Tuapse and Taganrog ports in the South of the country; Volga Shipping, North-West Shipping and Western Shipping companies; as well as a number of shipbuilding, shipping, railway and logistics assets. The group's business is divided into three divisions: UCL Rail, UCL Port and VBTH.

UCL Port consolidates JSC Sea Port St. Petersburg, CJSC Container Terminal Saint Petersburg, Universal Handling Terminal LLC based in North-West of Russia, the southern ports of Taganrog and Tuapse.

Stevedoring assets of UCL Port handle a wide range of goods, including metals, coal, grain, fertilizers, oil and petroleum products. The total storage area operated by the group's companies encompasses nearly 900,000 sqm. Total quay length is about 11,400 m.
