RZD Logistics OJSC says it is set to launch a weekly service of Sassnitz – Ust-Luga rail ferry (as of today, ferries leave Sassnitz for Ust-Luga only once a month).
The prospects of rail ferry links between Russia and Germany have been discussed at the Round Table meeting on transport and logistics in the maritime sector held on June 25, 2015 at the Government of the Leningrad Region within the framework of the Days of German Economy and the visit of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern delegation.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a federated state in northern Germany, is located at the crossroads of important transport routes and has an access to the Baltic Sea. Sassnitz-Mukran is of a strategic significant for the state. It is the larges rail ferry port in Germany and the largest multi-purpose transshipment hub. The shortest way from Germany to Scandinavia, Baltic States and Russia runs via Sassnitz.
A delegation of 75 representatives of German business is led by Mr. Erwin Sellering, Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
