GOBTC proposes to set up new international body for coordination in maritime training

Global On-Board-Training Center (GOBTC) has proposed to provide a new international platform for coordination of efforts in the field of maritime education, the organization's head said Tuesday.

Hisashi Yamamoto, Secretary General, GOBTC, speaking at the International conference "Maritime Education: Trends and Challenges of the 21st century”, St. Petersburg, July 7, 2015, said the measure will help coordinate globally the education, administration and control of the training quality for the maritime industry.

"Today we need to control this process as we will have to face the noticeable shortage of trained stuff and human resources in the maritime sector within the next five years ", the PortNews correspondent quoted Dr. Hisashi Yamamoto as saying.

The GOBTC official added that some African countries would be willing to bring to the global market its staff, but "they do not have sufficient qualifications, so the need for teachers and trainers in the African continent is the biggest in the world."

The International conference "Maritime Education: Trends and Challenges of the 21st century" is being held in St. Petersburg July 7, 2015 at Adm. Makarov State University. The event is supported the Russian Ministry of Transport, the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport and with the participation of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
