In January-June 2015, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 2,697,300 t of cargo (+0.8%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority. Transshipment of grain fell by 6.2% to 1,283,100 t, construction materials – up 9.6% to 286,200 t, timber – up 31.2% to 283,800, oil – down 71.3% to 24,300 t, oil products – up 32.2% to 129,600 t.
The port’s container throughput dropped by 18% to 1,569 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo cargo climbed by 1% to 17,413 units. Passenger turnover declined by 1% to 19,523 passengers. The number of calls fell by 4% to 690 calls.
The port of Liepaja established in 1990-ies is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2014, the port of Liepaja handled 5.29 mln tonnes of cargo.
