Eimskip to make changes to its sailing schedule for Gray Line

Eimskip will in the middle of October make changes to its sailing schedule where the services of the Gray Line will be expanded, the company said in its press release.

The Gray Line has since February 2014 served between the Faroe Islands and Scotland, but the line’s role will become more extensive than before with an additional chartered vessel of 500 TEU. The Gray Line will continue its services between the Faroe Islands and Scrabster in Scotland, but new port calls will be added in Århus in Denmark, Halmstad in Sweden and Swinoujscie in Poland.

There has been substantial growth in transported volume to Iceland in recent months and further growth is expected. Transport volume in the North Atlantic has been affected by the Russian embargo. The change of the sailing schedule is made to adjust it to ever-changing market needs. The change will increase the capacity of the company’s liner vessel fleet by 6% and a port call is added in Poland. There will be substantial increase in system flexibility which will increase reliability during the winter period.

The two vessels serving the Gray Line will be named Blikur and Lómur. These names have historically been connected to Faroe Ship, Eimskip’s subsidiary in the Faroe Islands, since vessels with these names were for decades operated by Faroe Ship.
