On October 9, 2015, Kaliningrad-based Yantar Shipyard (United Shipbuilding Corporation) commenced mooring trials of large landing ship Ivan Gren, the lead ship of Project 11711 built for RF Navy, the shipyard’s press center says.

Upon completion of the trials the ship will leave for acceptance/delivery base in Baltijsk for manufacturer’s sea trials. The delivery is scheduled for late 2015.

The evolution of old Project 1171, the new Project 11711 was designed by Nevskoye Design Bureau. In the 60s-70s the shipyard built 14 ships of Project 1171. The lead ship of the Project, Ivan Gren, was laid down in December 2004 and launched in May 2012.

The first serial ship of Project 11711, named Petr Morgunov, was laid down at Yantar in June, 2015. The ship is to be delivered to RF Navy in 2018.

Kaliningrad-based Baltic Shipbuilding Plant “Yantar” (Amber) was founded on July 8,1945 on the basis of a Koenigsberg unit of German’s Schichau Werft. Yantar Shipyard specializes in building and repairs of warships and civil boats. Throughout the years the Shipyard has built 154 warships and more than 500 merchant vessels. The Russian Government holds majority stake in the shipbuilding firm through Western Center of Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation.

United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC OJSC) is the largest shipbuilding company in Russia. It was set up in 2007 with 100% federal ownership. The holding comprises 60 companies and organizations (major shipbuilding and shiprepairing companies as well as leading design bureaus). Currently, USC consolidates about 80% of the domestic shipbuilding complex. The Russian market is the main focus of the state corporation though it also exports its products to 20 countries worldwide.
