The meeting of the Regional Council of the Barents/Euro-Arctic Region was held in Oulu. The Murmansk region was represented by Governor Marina Kovtun, says the press center of the regional government. Within the framework of the meeting the Barents Regional Council chairmanship was passed on to the region of Kainuu, Finland. A new chairman of the Barents Regional Council Timo Korhonen said that as the chairman will try to unite even stronger the areas of cooperation to realize their high economic potential. In the future the Barents cooperation will focus on tourist attractiveness of the regions and on Arctic investment potential development. The importance of cross-border cooperation programs "Kolarctic" and "Karelia" were confirmed at the meeting as well. "The Barents/Euro-Arctic region is a unique platform for interaction. This area is united by geography, history, climate and has a common ecosystem. The Barents/Euro-Arctic Council is a "round table", where all who seat around are equal,” - stressed Marina Kovtun after the priorities of the Barents cooperation had been discussed.
