Russia and Finland to conduct test operations involving both parties’ icebreakers

On November 28, 2015, RF President Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law On Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Finland on Cooperation and Interaction in Icebreaker Assistance in the Baltic Sea. Thus, domestic procedures necessary for putting the Agreement into force have been completed, Vitaly Klyuev, Acting Director of Transport Ministry’s Department of State Policy for Maritime and River Transport, told IAA PortNews at the Transport of Russia exhibition.

He also said the 36th meeting of Russia-Finland Commission for maritime shipping was held in Saint-Petersburg on December 2, 2015.

The delegations headed by Vitaly Klyuev and Risto Murto, Director of Unit, Transport Networks Transport Policy Department of Finland’s Transport and Communications Ministry, discussed practical measures for implementation of the Agreement and decided to charge the organizations responsible for icebreaker assistance draft the required documents by December 25 and conduct test operations involving the icebreakers.

The next meeting of the Commission will be held in 2016 in Finland.
