Diesel-electric icebreaker Murmansk (Project 21900 М) will be put into operation by the end of December, 2015. According to IAA PortNews correspondent, this was announced by Yury Kostin, Deputy Head of Rosmorrechflot (Federal Marine and River Transport Agency), at the V International Forum “Arctic: Today And The Future”. The acceptance/delivery ceremony has been scheduled for December 25.
Icebreaker Murmansk is the third in the series of three vessels.
The ship was designed by Baltsudoproekt bureau (Krylov State Research Center) and laid down at Vyborg Shipyard (USC) on December 26, 2012. The hull structures were then delivered to Arctech Helsinki Shipyard (fully owned by USC) for final assembling and fitting out.
The lead icebreaker of Project 21900 М, the Vladivostok, was delivered to the customer, Federal Marine and River Transport Agency, as scheduled, in October 2015. The first serial icebreaker, the Novorossiysk was launched in late October 2015.
