Icebreaker Vaygach completed assisting tanker Svyatoy Pyotr in NSR waters (photo)

On December 17, nuclear-powered icebreaker Vaygach completed providing assistance to tanker Svyatoy Pyotr. According to FSUE Atomflot, fuel deliveries to port points of the Northern Sea Route water area were performed in the interest of RF Defence Ministry and were the latest works performed. 

Icebreaker Vaygach was escorting and providing assistance in the course of the tanker’s unloading operations for three weeks starting from November 25.

Over the two-month period from the day Vaygach left the port of Murmansk the icebreaker covered 16,000 miles in the waters of the Northern Sea Route including 14,500 miles in ice-covered waters. 10 assistance operations were performed during this period.

The icebreaker is currently heading for the Kara Sea where she will assist tankers towards the Arctic terminal at the Cape Kammenny of the Ob Bay under Gazprom Neft Novy Port project for crude shipments.

Another low-draught nuclear-powered icebreaker Taymyr continues working in the Kara Sea assisting ships bound for port Sabetta under construction at the Yamal peninsula.

Icebreaker Yamal will leave port Murmansk for the Kara Sea in late December.

Nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance at the port of registration.
