CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin to call at U.S. port on December 26
The CMA CGM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN will call at the port of Los Angeles on December 26 and Oakland on December 31, CMA CGM says. She will be the largest vessel ever to reach U.S. coasts. By deploying an 18,000-TEU capacity vessel to the U.S., Jacques R. Saadé, Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, is showing CMA CGM’s faith in long-term growth potential of the U.S. economy, and its commitment to increasing its U.S. market share.
The CMA CGM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN’s dimensions are impressive. With its 1,300 ft. length and 177 ft. width, she is longer than the Empire State Building and wider than an American football field.
The vessel is 197 ft. high, which is the same height as a 20-floor building. Her highest antenna peaks at 230 ft.
The CMA CGM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN can carry up to 18,000 containers – including 1,500 Reefer containers. All containers placed in a line would equal the distance between Santa Monica and Santa Barbara. Its maximum load capacity represents the volume of 235 Olympic pools – meaning almost 590,000 cubic meters.
The gigantic vessel is also model for high-energy production. Her 78 ft. length engine room contains a last generation engine as powerful as 900 Ford Focus cars and her 21 knots thrust is equivalent to that of 11 Boeing 747-400 engines (3,000 KNewton).
The CMA CGM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN has the electric production of a city of 16,000 inhabitants (14MWatts).
The crew of this self-run enterprise comprises 26 members who operate the various facets of the vessel inclusing its own waste recycle system, chef, and swimming pool, etc.
