On February 2, 2016, ferry ship «Petersburg» berthed at the quay of the Passenger Port of St. Petersburg for winter lay-up, says the port’s press center. It is expected that the ship will stay in port until April 1, 2016.
The vessel is 173 meters long, width - 26 meters, draft - 7,31 meters. Passenger capacity is 120 people. On board there are two cargo decks for the transport of up to 308 cars or 110 rail cars.
The vessel was built in 1986 at the shipyard VEB Mathias-Thesen-Werft Wismar in Wismar and was the first railway ferry line Mukran - Klaipeda. At the time of commissioning was the largest double-decker rail ferry in the world. After restructuring in 1995 the ferry was renamed «Petersburg».
Until now, the ship under the control of the operator "Blacks Ferry and Investments" operates regular calls on the line Baltiysk - Ust-Luga.
