Russian Govt approves Strategy for Development of Inland Water Transport of Russia till 2030

The Strategy for the Development of Inland Water Transport of the Russian Federation for the period till 2030 was approved by the Order of RF Government dated February 29, 2016 (No 327-r), says press center of Russian Government.

The document was developed by the  Ministry of Transport in fulfillment of the presidential order.

Total length of inland water ways of the Russian Federation is 101,700 km. Along the inland water ways there are 723 federally owned hydraulic engineering facilities. There are over 130 river ports with 828 onshore and 247 floating cranes. The fleet of river shipping companies can carry almost all types of cargo.

Yet, inland water transport of Russia accounts for less than 2% of cargo carried by all means of transportation. Passenger traffic is decreasing, also in the areas where inland water transport is the only alternative.

The Strategy sets forth a package of measures focused on changing the state of inland water transport and on efficient development of the industry.

The Strategy is to be implemented in two phases: Phase I – till 2020, Phase II – 2021–2030.

The Government Transport Committee at its meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich generally approved the Strategy for the Development of Inland Water Transport of the Russian Federation for the period till 2030 on January 26, 2016.
