Scandlines' new state-of-the-art hybrid ferry M/V Berlin that with first passengers and Ro-Ro cargo on board will set sail at 06:00, Monday (May 23) on her maiden voyage between Gedser and Rostock, TV Øst reported.
On 3 May the brand new vessel for the first time was rolled out for the public. The time was TV EAST with which we could tell that, for instance, comes a 400 kvm2 large shopping area and there is free WI-FI on board.
Now the final tests will be conducted and the necessary certificates have been obtained by Scandlines for M/V Berlin.
"I am very proud of the result we can present on Monday to our customers. The project has been associated with several challenges, but now when I'm walking around on the ferry, I am glad that we stood firm on our decision," says Søren Poulsgaard Jensen, CEO of Scandlines.
M/V Berlin is the first of two new hybrid ferries to be deployed on the Rostock-Gedser line. M/V Berlin replaces M/V Prince Joachim, that next week will be handed over to European Seaways, which had aquired the ship to continue its operations in Greece. The M/V Berlin's sister ship M/V Copenhagen will enter service this autumn.
