On July 29, 2016, Sevmash OJSC (Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Region; part of USC) laid down nuclear-powered multipurpose submarine of Yasen-M class, says the shipyard.
The keel-laying ceremony was attended by the local authorities, representatives of RF Navy, United Shipbuilding Corporation, industrial companies and Malakhit Central Design Bureau.
Deputy commander of the Russian Navy, Rear Admiral Victor Bursuc, said that keel-laying of the new submarine is the best present for RF Navy on the eve of its 320-year anniversary. According to him, the lead ship of Yasen-class series, the Severodvinsk has confirmed the characteristics foreseen by the project.
The nuclear-powered submarine named Perm will be the fifth in the series of Yasen-M ships designed by the St. Petersburg based Malakhit Central Design Bureau. Nuclear submarine Severodvinsk, the lead Yasen class ship of the series built by Sevmash was delivered to RF Navy on June 17, 2014. Nuclear-powered multipurpose submarines Kazan, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Arkhangelsk are being built to the improved project Yasen-M. Equipment and materials are to be supplied by Russian manufacturers.
According to the Russian Navy’s new doctrine, an extended series of such submarines will form the core of Russia’s fleet of multi-purpose nuclear-powered submarines. Following the keel-laying ceremony 19 employees of Sevmash were awarded with state decorations according to the presidential decree.
