Throughput of port HaminaKotka (Finland) up 3.7% to 7.9 mln t in 7M’16

In January-July 2016, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 7.9 mln t of cargo (+3.7%, year-on-year).  According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 4.7% to 5.78 mln t including 1.54 mln t of paper (-5.5%), 897,800 t of cellulose (+14.4%), 1.28 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+13.6%) and 606,400 t of loose bulk cargo (-7.3%).

Transshipment of import cargo climbed by 1.2% to 2.12 mln t including 613,450 t of packaged cargo (-5.7%), 307,330 t of dry bulk cargo (-13.2%) and 697,600 t of liquid bulk cargo (+4.5%).

Transshipment of transit cargo climbed by 0.7% to 1.88 mln t, inland traffic grew by 20.7% to 589,240 t.

Transshipment of containers climbed by 13.1% to 374,180 TEUs, transshipment of automobiles – plunged 56.6% to 5,803 units.

The number of calls climbed by 1.9% to 1,520 calls.

The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. PeteRSburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2015, the port handled 13 mln t of cargo.
