Hamburg Port Authority increases basic port fee rate by 0.9% for most transport operations for 2017

Following a freeze in 2016, the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) increases the basic port fee rate by 0.9% for the majority of transport operations for 2017, HPA press office says. “Our tariff policy sends a clear signal to shipping companies and port industries. We strive to ensure that Hamburg remains attractive as a port of call,” says Tino Klemm, Director Finance and Property as well as Member of Management Board of the HPA.

Given the pending decision with regards to the fairway adjustment, the reductions for especially large vessels and transshipment will be continued. At the same time, however, the respective discount will be reduced by increasing the cap. This will take pressure of the shipping companies overall and is unique in its dimension among significant competitor ports.

The five environmental discounts (ESI-, LNG-, port power-, Green Award- and Blue Angel discount) for especially clean vessels remain an incentive for environmental-friendly behaviour. The positive response to the incentives shows in the use of the Environmental Ship Index Environmental discount (ESI). More than 4,000 vessels are already ESI certified globally – and the trend is still rising. Currently about 50 ports and other supporters in Europe, America, Asia and Oceania are contributing to further advance these developments. More than 18% of all calls to the Port of Hamburg are already far cleaner than required by law.
