Jim Clancy chosen to host TMS Awards

The Maritime Standard is pleased to confirm that the Master of Ceremonies for this year's TMS Awards will be the well-known TV news journalist Jim Clancy. Jim spent nearly 35 years with CNN, and hosted several shows, including The World Today and The Brief, before leaving the station in 2015. He was also the moderator for CNN Connects, the network's signature global panel discussion program, showcasing the world's top political and business leaders. Jim now runs his own media consultancy business and is passionate about training the next generation of journalists, taking part in a number of colleges and university-based training courses.

Jim will bring to the Awards years of experience and a reputation for quality and integrity. From 1982 to 1996, he was a CNN international correspondent in the Beirut, Frankfurt, Rome and London and won the George Polk Award for his reporting on the genocide in Rwanda, the DuPont-Columbia Award for coverage of the war in Bosnia and an Emmy Award for reporting on the famine and international intervention in Somalia. Jim joined CNN in 1981 as a national correspondent after an extensive career in local radio and television in Denver and San Francisco.

TMS managing director, Trevor Pereira, says, "We are very fortunate to have secured the services of someone who is known around the world for breaking the big news stories and for high quality journalism. I am sure he will have some interesting anecdotes to share, and advice to give, based on more than 35 years covering world events. He will add a touch of class to proceedings."
