Rostov Universal Port (RUP LLC, Azov-Don Shipping Company) together with RSK company has handled oversized cargo of record high weight and length, RUP Director General Peotr Aseyev told IAA PortNews.
Unique operation on transshipment of 117.5-tonne and 60-meter long equipment for Antipinsky Refinery (Tyumen) from a vessel of mixed sea/river navigation onto a barge was held on October 28-29, 2016.
Although Rostov Universal Port specializes in transshipment of oversized cargo with the use of specialized Liebherr crane able to lift up to 64-tonne cargo, this transshipment operation required two more railway cranes of 125 and 200 tonnes in capacity.
“Oversized cargo with this weight and length has been handled for the first time in the history of Rostov-on-Don port, so the operation can be described as a record!” said Aleksei Avedov, Director of RSK LLC, this cargo forwarder. According to him, the key challenge was to arrange simultaneous availability of the vessel, the barge and the rail cranes intensely deployed for railway operations. A strong eastern wind hindered the operation having caused a negative surge in the water area of Rostov-on-Don.
Despite all the challenges RUP and RSK have succeeded in handling heavy oversized cargo. On October 29 the equipment for Antipinsky Refinery left for the place of destination.
It should be added that Rostov Universal Port also offers services on storing and transshipment of different heavy and oversized cargo. In 2015, RUP LLC signed a long-term agreement with RSK LLC on handling of oversized cargo.
