WMU delivered EPDC on Assessment, Examination and Certification of Seafarers in Cyprus

WMU says it delivered an Executive Professional Development Course (EPDC) in Larnaca, Cyprus on Assessment, Examination and Certification of Seafarers from 7 to 11 November. The 14 participants included administrators, supervisors, trainers and assessors in the Cyprus Maritime Education and Training (MET) System. Dr Michael Manuel, WMU Associate Professor and Head of MET, delivered the course that was held under the auspices of the newly established Cyprus Maritime Academy with the involvement of the Cyprus Government’s Department of Merchant Shipping.

This EPDC supports national capacity building relating to the 1978 STCW Convention as amended, in particular, regulation I/6, and is based on the existing IMO Model Course on assessment, examination and certification of seafarers. In this regard, it is aimed at acquainting participants with the international legal, administrative and operational requirements of the Convention.

Through customized executive courses, WMU meets the educational needs and requirements of particular organizations and actively supports the commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goal 4: inclusive and equitable quality education and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all.
