Throughput of Klaipeda port (Lithuania) rises almost 4% to over 40 mln t in 2016

Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania between January and December 2016 increased by almost 4% on the same period's figures and exceeded million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics said.

The growth was driven mostly by transshipment of crude oil, containers, Ro-Ro and other types of cargo.

State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2015 (including Butinge Terminal) rose 9% (y-o-y) to 38.44 million tonnes.
