Rosterminalugol JSC (the largest dedicated coal port in the Baltic region, part of Russia’s largest coal port holding Port Management Company LLC) says it handled 18 mln t of cargo in 2016, up 3.4%, year-on-year.
The milestone tonne was loaded with involvement of a new transfer station (PS-11) put into operation on 16 December 2016. The vessel was loaded directly from wagons without involving storage facilities.
High level of production process automation and sustainable technical development allowed the company to handle more than 120 mln t of coal from the moment it was established and achieve some performance records: maximum unloading per shift (12 hours) and per day was 539 and 1,021 wagons accordingly; the largest consignment in the history of the terminal - 108,872 t of coal was loaded onto M/V Magsenger 6.
In 2016, the number of wagons handled at the terminal totaled 252,000 (244,000 in 2015). 283 vessels were loaded at the terminal with Panamax vessels accounting for 69.6%, Handymax - for 7.42%, Post-panamax – 9.19%.
The bulk of coal is shipped from Rosterminalugol to the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain and Turkey. In 2016 the company performed shipments to some new markets – Malaysia, China, Chili.
Tax payments of the company to the budget of the Leningrad Region totaled some RUB 2.25 bln in 2016. Investments in improvement of environmental safety exceeded RUB 200 mln in 2014-2016. The terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art dust suppression and storm water control systems. Environmental safety at the port is ensured by the ISO 14001:2004 standard “Enviromental Management System”.
Financing of several environmental projects in the region will continue in 2017 under the company’s long-term programme on enhancing environmental safety initiated by Port Management Company LLC, a sole executive body of Rosterminalugol JSC.
“Apart from the new level of coal transshipment and commissioning of the new transfer station in 2016, we completed a number of other projects important for further development of the terminal. We repaired berth No 2 and performed a large scale reconstruction of water treatment facilities. Additional water storage tanks ensure uninterrupted operation of the terminal for two days under the project on enhancing the port endurance,” said Yevgeny Korban, Managing Director of Rosterminalugol JSC.
Rosterminalugol JSC (port Ust-Luga, Leningrad Region) is the largest dedicated coal terminal in the North-West region of Russia. The terminal built with the application of the innovative technologies is intended to supply Russian coal produced in Kuzbass and other coal fields to the customers in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Latin America. The terminal was founded in 1996 under the programme on establishment of a commercial seaport in Ust-Luga. Phase II of the port – automated transshipment facility – was put into operation in 2006 in the presence of RF President Vladimir Putin. In 2016, Rosterminalugol entered the holding run by Port Management Company LLC.
The port’s three lines ensure a complete cycle of operations including automatic unloading, treatment and magnetic cleaning, storage and loading onto seagoing ships including panamax and capsize bulk cargo carriers, customs and shipping paperwork. Environmental safety at the port is ensured by state-of-the-art dust suppression and storm water control systems. In 2016, Rosterminalugol celebrated its 20th anniversary.
