Busan Port set its goal to handle 20mln TEU in 2017

Busan Port Authority(BPA, President WOO Ye-jong) stated on the 3rd that BPA set its goal to process 20 million TEUs in 2017, the company said in its press release.

Container cargo volume at Busan Port rose 2.7% from 19.46 million TEU last year. Moreover, import & export cargo grew 2.2% to 9.817 million TEU and T/S cargo also grew 3.3 percent to 10.183 million TEU.

T/S cargo in 2017 is anticipated to drop 3.0% YoY due to T/S cargo loss from Hanjin Shipping bankruptcy and reshuffle of alliances.

BPA, however, will continue to exert all-out efforts to bolster marketing activities for alliances, to increase cargo volume and new service, to carry out efficient incentives, and to attract containers from countries with growth potential including Southeast Asia(Vietnam), South America and ME.

Mr. WOO stated “This year will require in-depth changes and risk management to adapt to the harsh global logistics environment triggered by Hanjin Shipping bankruptcy and a newly established shipping alliance in April. In this regard, All members of BPA are going to endeavor to attract new cargo volume and to contribute to the local and national economy by fostering various port related industries.”
