Throughput of port HaminaKotka (Finland) up 5.4% to 1.16 mln t in January 2017

In January 2017, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 1.16 mln t of cargo (+5.4%, year-on-year).  According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 11.5% to 892,100 t including 208,780 t of paper (+0.1%), 136,010 t of cellulose (+30.5%), 187,780 t of liquid bulk cargo (-0.6%), 120,690 t of dry bulk cargo (-12.6%).

Transshipment of import cargo fell by 11.2% to 264,280 t including 1.03 mln t of packaged cargo (-2.5%), 83,130 t of dry bulk cargo (+14%) and 84,860 t of liquid bulk cargo (-22.9%).

Transshipment of transit cargo grew by 5.3% to 306,290 t, inland traffic dropped by 43.7% to 61,880 t. 

Transshipment of containers climbed by 13.5% to 55,340 TEUs, transshipment of automobiles plunged by 91.5% to 34 units. 

The number of calls climbed by 2.6% to 201 calls.

The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2016, the port handled 13.4 mln t of cargo.
