France Pélagique and Havyard Ship Technology signed an agreement to build an innovative pelagic traw
France Pélagique (based in Paris and part of the Cornelis Vrolijk group based in The Netherlands) and Havyard Ship Technology (based in Norway) have signed a contract to build an innovative pelagic trawler of 80-meter. The vessel is expected to be delivered in December 2018. This new innovative vessel will replace one of the two French flagged trawlers (built in the early 80’s), owned by France Pélagique. The contract includes an option for one additional vessel.
France Pélagique has developed the vessel in close cooperation with Dutch ship designer ASD. Havyard will contribute strongly to the continuation of this work by providing design and engineering services. Havyard greatly rejoice this strategically important contract within one of the core segments of the company. “We are very happy to be awarded such a prestigious contract, and we hope to fulfill the high expectations of France Pelagique and develop a long lasting relationship”, says Sales Director Lars Conradi Andersen. “The work will commence immediately and will secure the yard with work throughout 2018.”
The vessel will be equipped with the latest technology for sustainable fishing and efficient processing of pelagic species such as herring, mackerel and blue whiting. The new vessel will have several innovations both in terms of safe working conditions for the crew and energy efficiency. “With this new vessel we further continue to strengthen our efforts to fish for future generations: while maintaining healthy fish stocks, minimize the environmental impact and with committed and proud people”, says Antoine Dhellemmes, Managing Director of France Pélagique. “We very much look forward to this new step in the history of France Pélagique at its 30th anniversary in 2018”.
France Pélagique was founded in 1988 and is part of the Cornelis Vrolijk group. Cornelis Vrolijk was founded in 1880. Today, the Cornelis Vrolijk group is an international operating family company, active in catching, farming and processing of fish, always with the objective to produce a high-quality and sustainable product for human consumption. Core activity is fishing and trading in pelagic fish.
Other important activities are demersal fisheries on species such as sole and plaice and the catching and farming of tropical shrimps. Including partnerships, over 1700 people are employed worldwide by Cornelis Vrolijk group.
