Arctic Shipping Company LLC acquires A-type ship from Spliethoff

Arctic Shipping Company LLC has signed an agreement to purchase a 12,000 DWT ship of A-type  (ice class Arc4) from shipping company Spliethoff, Mikhail Aryukhov, Director General of Arctic Shipping Company, told IAA PortNews. The ship will be named Taimyr and will operate under the flag of the Russian Federation.

Arctic Shipping Company has acquired two ships of this type from Spliethoff. 

“We have tested the two vessels previously purchased from this company in Arctic conditions. There were a lot of questions about their operation in the Arctic with the assistance of an icebreaker … The winter is over, the ships’ operation in the Arctic together with the icebreakers of Atomflot and Rosmorport  was good. Therefore we have decided to acquire one more ship”, told Mikhail Aryukhov. 

As of today, the ship is in Amsterdam (the Netherlands). She is undergoing the reflagging procedure. Her arrival in Arkhangelsk is expected by the end of April 2017.

Arctic Shipping Company LLC was set up in 2016 as a separate shipping company of forwarding company «ТC Nord project» LLC. The shipping company currently operates the fleet of 6 vessels with total deadweight of 56,000 t. All vessels are sailing under the flag of the Russian Federation, with the port of registration in Arkhangelsk.
