The expert commission of the State Environmental Impact Assessment has granted EIA approval for maintenance dredging project (2017-2024) in the basin of the Port of Kaliningrad, FSUE Rosmorport said Tuesday.
The annual dredging of the seaport access channels is required due to natural sedimentation. The project includes dredging annually up to 1.25 million cbm of materials that will be transported to a dredged material transfer station for further pumping it to onshore disposal sites or at underwater dumps, designated by the project documentation.
Overall, the volume of materials to be excavated within the port basin between 2017 and 2024 will total in excess of 10 million cbm.
The project includes dredging of the Kaliningrad Sea Channel, of inland harbors of the Kaliningrad port (Volnaya and Industrial) and of approaches to the dredged material receiving and transfer station, to terminals and berths of the seaport.
The EIA report said that “during the dredging, it is planned to conduct environmental monitoring. The implementation of this project will ensure the safe passage of vessels to the berths and terminals of the seaport of Kaliningrad".
