The Court extends confinement of Valery Izraylit, Chairman of Ust-Luga Company BoD, till 21 July 2017

The Dzerzhinsky District Court of Saint-Petersburg upheld the prosecution's motion to extend the confinement of Valery Izraylit, Chairman of Ust-Luga Company BoD, accused of embezzling RUB 93 mln, until July 21, 2017. As Ust-Luga Company OJSC told IAA PortNews, the defense is going to appeal the Court decision within the terms provided by law.

Andrei Dobrynin, the lawyer of Valery Izraylit, noted that once again the prosecution failed to provide any evidence confirming the need for such a preventive punishment. The defense has brought to the Court its opinion about inconsistency and wrongfulness of the investigators’ reasons.

The defense also brought to court the arguments and evidence confirming inconsistency of the criminal prosecution. The charges against Izraylit relate to the contract of Ust-Luga Design and Engineering Company (ULDEC), subsidiary of Ust-Luga Company. ULDEC signed a contract on turnkey construction of a facility at the port of Ust-Luga for a fixed amount of RUB 16 bln. The work was completed in full and accepted by the customs without any claims.

According to Anatoly Loginov, the lawyer, there was no crime as the contract implied turnkey works for a fixed amount.

Ust-Luga Company OJSC coordinates the construction of commercial seaport Ust-Luga within the framework of the federal special-purpose programme “Development of Russia’s transport system” under private-public partnership principles.

On 28 December 2016, the Dzerzhinsky District Court of Saint-Petersburg made a decision on the arrest of Valery Izraylit for the period until January 21, 2017.
