Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard (Nizhny Novgorod, United Shipbuilding Corporation) says it has launched the second chemical tanker of Project RST27 built for shipping company Volgotrans today, 5 May 2017.
Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard, shipping company Volgotrans LLC and Goznak-leasing CJSC signed the three-party contracts for supply of two chemical tankers of improved Project RST27 on October 27, 2015. The first tanker was launched on March 24, 2017.
“Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard is traditionally launching a new ship on the threshold of a holiday loved and respected by everybody – it is a new tanker in the largest series of domestic civil shipbuilding,” – Nikolai Zharkov, Director General of shipyard, said at the ceremony attended by the regional authorities, shipyard and customer representatives, designers, engineers and workers of Krasnoye Sormovo.
“The shipyard is building tankers one by one, – told Mikhail Pershin, Executive Director General of Krasnoye Sormovo. – Sea trials of the 21st and the 23rd tankers of Project RST27 have been completed several days ago. They are being prepared for the delivery to the customer. As for chemical tankers built for Volgotrans, they will be delivered in summer, upon completion of mooring and sea trials. Construction under all orders for 2017 fully complies with the schedule”.
“It is important, that the ability to fulfill its tasks with proper quality and according to the schedule has been developed by Krasnoye Sormovo for decades. Keen production skills have been perfected when fulfilling defence orders, the highest degree of responsibility has been achieved. That experience has later been expanded to civil shipbuilding, which is a unique example in domestic commercial shipbuilding,” said Dmitry Khritin, Director General of MNP Group.
The vessels are designed for mixed (river-sea) shipping of liquid bulk crude and oil products, including gasoline, with simultaneous carriage of two types of cargo.
Main particulars of Project RST27: LOA: 140.85 m, breadth: 16.7 m, depth: 6.0 m, DWT in fresh water (draft 3.6 m): 5,378 tonnes, DWT in salt water (draft 4.2 m): 6,980 tonnes.
The RST27 vessels were designed by Marine Engineering Bureau to RS class: KM (*) Ice1 R2 AUT1-ICS VCS ECO-S OMBO Oil tanker (ESP). Detailed design was provided by Nizhny Novgorod based engineering firm Volga-Caspian Design Bureau.
Krasnoye Sormovo PJSC is one of the oldest shipbuilding companies in Russia, founded in 1849. Throughout the 75-year period, more than three hundred submarines and rescue vehicles including 25 nuclear ones have been built and modernized by Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard. Today, Krasnoye Sormovo builds vessels of commercial fleet meeting the requirements of international conventions on reliability and safety. Some of Krasnoye Sormovo tankers are in the list of Significant Ships of the Year by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA).
