Throughput of port HaminaKotka (Finland) up 0.3% to 4.57 mln t in 4M’17

In January-April 2017, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 4.57 mln t of cargo (+0.3%, year-on-year).  According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 3.2% to 3.52 mln t including 887,560 t of paper (-1%), 547,690 t of cellulose (+5.4%), 776,520 t of liquid bulk cargo (+6.5%) and 385,730 t of dry bulk cargo (-12.3%).

Transshipment of import cargo fell by 8.1% to 1.15 mln t including 366,690 t of packaged cargo (+1.4%), 153,270 t of dry bulk cargo (-5.2%) and 297,880 t of liquid bulk cargo (-15.6%).

Transshipment of transit cargo grew by 1.8% to 1.15 mln t, inland traffic dropped by 19% to 258,170 t. 

Transshipment of containers climbed by 3.2% to 227,390 TEUs, transshipment of automobiles plunged by 48.3% to 1,647 units. 

The number of calls declined by 3.2% to 825 calls.

The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2016, the port handled 13.4 mln t of cargo.
