SM Line Corp. three days ago launched the KHX (Korea Haiphong Express) service. The launching ceremony with its vessel SM TOKYO deployed on the service was held at Busan Port, where the vessel is homeported. The KHX is the second liner service following the VTX, an intra-Asia service, launched on the 8th and they are strategically established to connect with its trans-Pacific service which is scheduled to commence on the 16th, Busan Port Authority(BPA) said.
BPA President WOO congratulated stating “I would like to congratulate SM Line on launching vessels at Busan Port. I’d like to take this opportunity to strengthen our T/S logistics network in order to achieve this year’s goal to handle 20 million TEU.”
SM Line CEO WOO Oh-hyeon said “I would like to thank BPA and related organizations for their support to launch of our first vessel. Currently, we offer trans-Pacific and intra-Asian service. However, our goal is to become a major global liner in 5 years and meet Busan citizens’satisfaction.”
BPA President WOO Ye-jong, administrator JO Seung-hwan of Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, director SONG Yang-ho of Busan Metropolitan City Oceans and Fisheries Division, CEO CHOI Seong-ho of Busan Port Terminal, Representative PARK In-ho of Busan Port Development Council, and other numerous guests participated in the vessel’s inauguration ceremony.
SM Line Corp. plans to focus on stabilizing its service this year. Moreover, it will endeavor to fulfill its duties and responsibilities as the second Korean flag ocean-going shipping company by expanding its routes to the East coast of America and South America in 2018.
