Year 2017 marks completion of the large-scale international project on remediation of former coastal base of the Northern Fleet at Andreeva Bay. According to Murmansk Region Government, construction of facilities needed for treatment of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and radioactive waste was conducted by the state atomic energy corporation Rosatom with international technical support. On June 27 first shipment of 9 tanks with SNF was transported for its further processing aboard the nuclear fuel carrier Rossita. Transportation of SNF has become a benchmark and yet one more proof of efficient multilateral international cooperation aimed at facilitation of atomic and nuclear safety. Murmansk region Governor Marina Kovtun, Minister for foreign affairs of Norway Børge Brende, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev as well as representatives from European Bank for Reconstruction and Development visited Andreeva Bay on that occasion.
