RF Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov has announced the establishment of Russian Transport University. According to the Ministry’s press center the statement has been made today, 29 June 2017, at the meeting of the Academic Council of MIIT (Moscow State University of Railway Engineering).
The University will based in MIIT, which was handed over from the Federal Rail Transport Agency to the Ministry of Transport by the Order of RF Government dated 31 December 2016.
The University’s education and scientific activities are to focus on a comprehensive transformation of transport and logistic infrastructure, support of transport projects implemented through private-public partnership, new technologies for cargo/passenger transportation, transport security, construction of transport infrastructure.
The initiative to establish Russian Transport University at the premises of MIIT was backed by the largest employers like Russian Railways, Sovcomflot, Aeroflot – Russian Airlines, Avtodor, Russian Transport Workers' Union, leading industry-related unions and academic community.
According to Konstantin Pashkov, Director of Transport Ministry’s Administrative Department, the establishment of the University is the final step towards shaping of transport education system including five water transport institutions, three institutions of commercial aviation and eight railway transport institutions. Russian Transport University will be on the top of this system with no further changes like mergers or closing of educational institutions to take place.
