The logistics support vessel (LSV) of Project 23120 "Elbrus" returned to Severnaya Verf Shipyard (part of USC) from initial builder's and state sea trials in the Baltic Sea. According to its results, the ship will be prepared for the transition to the northern latitudes for further acceptance trials, the shipbuilding company said in press release.
The shipbuilders have complied with several points of customer's requirements during the acceptance tests. In particular, the customer's representatives accepted the magnetic compass operation, which means completion of the "Navigation" segment trials.
"Based on the acceptance trials result the “Elbrus” was found ready for the transition to the northern latitudes for further sea trials, including tests of the vessel's aviation and technical equipment. Now the builders are busy with eliminating several remarks and correcting defects and the crew are replenishing bunker fuel, lubes and ship's stores for the transition," said Kirill Marugin, the project 23120 chief manager.
On July 28, 2017, Deputy Defense Minister Yury Borisov while inspecting the company's ships under construction noted that the shipbuilders had managed to overcame the difficulties associated with substitution of Elbrus's imported equipment. Previously, the vessel was scheduled for delivery in 2016.
The Project 23120 series vessels feature versatility, capable of performing a wide range of tasks: the transport of cargo, including ship-to-ship transfer of supplies on the high seas; towing operations; escort of ships performing combat missions; salvage and rescue of stricken ships and seafarers; seabed survey and mapping. The "Elbrus" hull was built to ARC4 class to sail in 0.6-meter-thick ice.
