Pile sinking has been completed at the highway section of the Kerch Strait bridge, says Crimean Bridge information center. The last pipe pile was driven in the section between the fairway and the Kerch shore (under support structure No 256).
The highway section foundation consists of more than 3,000 piles.
Bored and cast-in-place piles of the Crimea bridge are 1,200 to 1,500 mm in diameter and 24 to 57 m deep. They are filled with carcass and concrete. This type of piling is used at the Taman shore (first 20 support structures) and at the support structure No 287 near the Kerch shore. The highway section foundation numbers 475 piles of this type.
The rest of the foundation is made of steel pipe piles of 1,420 mm in diameter with wall thickness of 16, 20 and 40 mm. The highway section foundation numbers more than 2,500 piles of this type with depth from 23.5 m (Kerch side) to 89 m (Tuzla split). Total weight of all pipe piles in the highway section foundation exceeds 12,500 t, total length is more than 160 km.
Construction of the railway section is going on according to the schedule. Its support structures will rest on three types of piles. Driving of all bored and cast-in-place piles as well as prism piles has been completed with sinking of pipe piles underway (65% of more than 2,800 piles has been sunk).
