Vice-Admiral Kulakov, major ASW ship of RF Navy’s Northern Fleet made the first business call to Cyprus
On 20 August, Vice-Admiral Kulakov major ASW ship of the Northern Fleet’s, fulfilling tasks of her distant cruise in the Mediterranean Sea, made a business call to the port of Limassol (Republic of Cyprus), says press center of RF Defence Ministry.
Within a few days, the ship will replenish the fuel, water, and food supplies to the established standards. Also, seamen will have the opportunity to go ashore to relax and get acquainted with local sights.
Call to Limassol became the first after the beginning of the ship’s distant cruise. During the sea passage from the Gulf of Finland to the Mediterranean Sea, seamen overcame more than 7,000 nautical miles.
The main base of the Northern Fleet – the city of Severomorsk – was left by the Vice Admiral Kulakov MASWS in late June. After participating in the Main Naval Parade on 30 July, the MASWS made the transition to the North Sea as part of a unit of ships and auxiliary vessels of the Russian Navy from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea, and thereupon she continued to go southward.
The NF’s major ASW ship has one of the highest indices on the time spent underway in the Russian Navy. Only in 2016, the Vice Admiral Kulakov MASWS made three distant cruises carrying out tasks in the Arctic, Atlantic and Indian Oceans, as well as in the Mediterranean. In total, the Northern Fleet’s ASW seamen spent 265 days of the last year being in distant cruises.
