In January-September 2017, the port of Ventspils handled 16.2 mln t of cargo (+1.6%, year-on-year). According to the port authority, in September the port handled 1.2 mln t of cargo.
The growth was mainly driven by the increase in transshipment of coal and cargoes carried by ferries.
Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2016, the port handled 18.8 mln t of cargo.
