Throughput of port HaminaKotka (Finland) up 8% to 10.68 mln t in 9M’17

In January-September 2017, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 10.68 mln t of cargo (+8%, year-on-year).  According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 9.7% to 7.84 mln t including 2.03 mln t of paper (+1.6 %), 1.2 mln t of cellulose (+3.9%), 1.52 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-2.7%) and 1.06 mln t of dry bulk cargo (+58.8%).

Transshipment of import cargo grew by 3.6% to 2.84 mln t including 858,120 t of general cargo (+9.5%), 577,210 t of dry bulk cargo (+48.8%) and 804,110 t of liquid bulk cargo (-13.1%).  

Transshipment of transit cargo grew by 17.4% to 2.58 mln t, inland traffic dropped by 23.9% to 577,210 t. 

Transshipment of containers climbed by 10.1% to 519,720 TEUs, transshipment of Ro-Ro cargo fell by 3.7% to 10,963 units, automobiles – by 4.7% to 6,377 units. 

The number of calls declined by 2.5% to 1,883 calls.

The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2016, the port handled 13.4 mln t of cargov.
