On 31 October 2017, Murmansk hosted name-giving and flag-raising ceremonies for research ship Akademik Primakov that will perform geophysical survey on the Arctic shelf of Russia, says press center of the Murmansk Region Government.
The ship has been purchased by Rosgeo JSC in 2017 (owner – Sevmorneftegeofizika OJSC, subsidiary of Rosgeo).
The Akademik Primakov is able to tow up to 16 streamers fitted with state-of-the-art computer system allowing for on site processing of geophysical data. In the 1st decade of October the ship performed successful work in the Barents Sea having covered 4,150 sq. km.
According to the statement, technical characteristics of the ship fully comply with current environmental standards and requirements for geological exploration on the continental shelf of the Russian Federation including Arctic waters.
“The research ship lets perform any technological task in the Arctic region and any international waters”, emphasized Roman Panov, Rosgeo Director General.
Marina Kovtun, Governor of the Murmansk Region, expressed her hope for further cooperation with Rosgeo to facilitate the creation of a comprehensive oil & gas cluster within the Kola Anchor Zone.
