On 27 March the Collegium of the Russian Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) and Public Council of the Agency held an extended meeting during which the industry work results in 2017 and plans for 2018 were summed up, says press center of Sovcomflot. Sovcomflot was represented by Igor Tonkovidov, Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer of Sovcomflot, at the meeting.
During the Colleguim meeting a ceremony of awarding the winners of the annual Industry Leadership Award was held. Based on the results of 2017 Sovcomflot was announced the winner of "Shipping company engaged in marine cargo tanker transportation" award by an expert commission of Rosmorrechflot. Sovcomflot also got awarded for the 2017 successful commissioning of Christophe de Margerie, the first-ever icebreaking LNG carrier serving the Yamal LNG project. In August 2017, she became the world’s first merchant vessel to travel the full length of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) safely, without any icebreaker escort. In December 2017 the carrier was loaded with the first lot of the Yamal liquefied natural gas (LNG) and provided a good start for year-round shippings of LNG under the project.
Christophe de Margerie tanker has already been highly commended by experts of the world oil and gas market: in December 2017 the vessel has won the award for Engineering Project of the Year at the 2017 S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards.
